More stories to discuss involving Bruce Pearl

September 15, 2010 in Blog by Josh Ward

More information has come out regarding Bruce Pearl and the NCAA’s investigation into the University of Tennessee basketball program.

Sources told Gary Parrish of CBSSports.com that Ohio State freshman Aaron Craft and Kansas freshman Josh Selby were at Pearl’s home during a visit to Knoxville in 2008. That would be an NCAA violation.

Pearl denied that the players, who were committed to UT at the time, had ever visited his home, according to Parrish. The problem is NCAA investigators already had a picture of the players at Pearl’s home. In fact, Pearl was asked about the photo by the NCAA on July 14, according to Mike Griffith of the Knoxville News Sentinel. It wasn’t until Aug. 5 that Pearl gave information to the NCAA about the photo.

What does this do for Pearl and the UT basketball program? Who knows, but it can’t be good.

Gentry Estes from 247Sports.com covers the Georgia Bulldogs. He’ll join Sports180 at 1:30 to discuss Georgia’s upcoming game against Arkansas.

Jonathan Hutton talks Chris Johnson, Terrell Owens

in Audio, Blog by Josh Ward

Jonathan Hutton from Titans Radio and 104.5 The Zone in Nashville joined Tuesday’s show to talk about Chris Johnson’s restructured contract with the Tennessee Titans.

The new deal should allow Johnson to arrive at training camp and participate when team activities begin on July 31. Hutton said Johnson isn’t the only player who’s happy a deal was reached.

“I think Vince young is a very happy player this morning because of the issues he would have had if Chris Johnson wouldn’t have been there,” Hutton said.

Hutton says Titans fans shouldn’t expect to see free agent wide receiver Terrell Owens join the Titans. Hutton believes Owens would sign a deal if he were offered by the Titans, but they’re not likely to offer one.

Tom Ziller talks Chism and NBA offseason

July 19, 2010 in Audio, Blog by Josh Ward

Tom Ziller from AOL FanHouse joined Sports 180 on Monday to talk about the NBA offseason.

Ziller talks about the recent comments by Michael Jordan regarding LeBron James’ decision to leave Cleveland for Miami. While Jordan’s comments might have been controversial, Ziller says you can’t deny Jordan is right.

Ziller also discusses the NBA summer league performances of former Kentucky center DeMarcus Cousins and former Tennessee forward Wayne Chism. Both played for the Sacramento Kings summer team. Ziller says Cousins was outstanding during the summer but still has plenty of questions about his future. Chism performed well, according to Ziller, but Chism still has work to do to find a spot in the NBA.
